On the day that I met my wife, I was carrying a book by Saramago, the Portuguese Nobel Prize writer. Karen had never read it, so I lent her my copy of Baltasar and Blimunda, even though I was halfway through it and seriously engaged in the story. I'm glad I did. When I proposed to her, two years later, we immediately agreed to elope to Mafra, where the love of Baltasar and Blimunda unfolded. And it was just perfect.

My family lives in Brazil and my husband's family is from Germany. We met in London, while studying, and decided to make a living there. But I admit that I needed to have the ocean and a bright sunshine at my wedding... So the Algarve was a natural «meet us halfway» choice, and everyone loved it - actually, it's our new annual family tradition: getting together in the Algarve for a week, to celebrate our anniversary!

We discovered Douro by chance, actually. The first year that I spent Christmas with Jonathan's family, I researched a lot in order to take with me a very special bottle of wine. I did find it, it was amazing, and that night we started a conversation that led to more research and, eventually, the whole family was in love with Douro wines. It was very easy to choose Portugal for our wedding - and our honeymoon, too!
